Default Towing stuff

I read what it said in the manual about towing things. I am curious to what you guys have actually pulled with your jeep. Also what is actually "doable" without risk of damaging anything. My jeep is the manual 6 speed 2d. Thoughts? What I read was very low numbers. I thought it was crazy how low it was for what I was expecting.

I have an Unlimited with an automatic transmission (and an aftermarket tranny cooler) and 4.10s. I regularly pull a 4000 lb. boat. No problems at all.

I have the basic X model, 6-speed manual with 3.73 gears. I use a class 3 hitch and tow a 6 X 8 steel trailer with a steel ramp (guessing round 450 lbs?) and can haul a rank of seasoned oak with no problems. Total under 1000 lbs probably.

For my Jeep, the manual calls for 2000 lbs. max gross trailer weight and a max tongue weight is 200 lbs. Not too shabby

I often pull a trailer with two full size atvs, it uses a lot of gas and is not that fast but I don't think it has any problems doing it, not the best tow vehicle.

I have an x with 3.73's and pulled a 4 buy 8 steel trailer with an atv on it about 2300 miles back in june and never had any trouble. Atv and trailer was probably right at 2000lbs.

I have a rubi unlimited with the 6 speed. I pulled a 3000# enclosed trailer and had about 1500# of gear in the jeep. I went over 3000 miles over the Alcan Highway last winter. It handled the snow and ice great and I got 13 mpg also.

A side note: I do oil analysis at every filter and oil change and usually get over 20,000 mile out of my oil and that time the additives went sour at 10,000 miles so you might change your oil more often if you do any hard pulling.

Rubi, auto, unlimited.

I've pulled a 19'6" VIP boat and trailer. About 3,000lbs. No problem, got 13MPG.

I pulled our pop-up which is a Fleetwood E3 that tips the scales loaded at almost 4,000lbs. I got 13MPG and was able to cruise at 75mph.

Pulled nicely. Much better than our old Montero Sport with a 5,000# tow rating could ever pull!

That's a good sized trailer. I've been looking to pickup a used pop up trailer in the next year or so. My question isn't about towing, but about stopping the thing. Did you find that stopping was a bigger issue than towing the trailer? How did the Jeep handle it?

I'm driving a 2-door X auto with 3.73 gears.

The 2-door wont tow as well. Our pip up has trailer brakes; however, I did not have the controller hooked up for my last 110 mile trip. Braking felt confident. You still planned ahead and left plenty of room to stop.

The tongue weight was around 350lbs. I could bot get it to budge, yet the rear of the unlimited did not squat.

I would be very cautiuos towing more than 2500# with a 2-door.

The 4-door is pretty heavy and a longer wheelbase than a grand cherokee I'm told.
