Default TPMS or lack there of....

I met up with a fellow forum member for a set of (5) 18" sahara wheels/tires (less the TPMS which he pilfered for his new setup) and swapped them out for the 17" moab and BFG MT (with TPMS) which originally came on my 08 rubi.

Running 4 of the 18" without TPMS and carrying the 17" moabs in the cargo area, I threw the TPMS code after about 50 miles on the trip home.

At home I later stored 4 of the 17moabs, and put one back on the tailgate. No TPMS code for 2 days, although it went on last night a mile from home, and has not come back since, although its only been one day or so.

Does keeping the spare on the tailgate that has a TPMS trick the system to think they are all there, or is it thoroughly confused.

I want to pull the TPMS cluster bulb, I don't see much value anyway, i normally check my pressures monthly.

BTW, Better mpg already with sahara wheel package, it must be a little lighter.

I realize what you must think my putting hwy tires on a rubi. However, they are merely place holders until I run down the rest of the tread. 33 or something bigger in a MT, or AT for the 18" are planned, maybe the goodyear duratrac, or something else if anyone has any suggestions.

I really liked the 32" BFG MT btw, very quiet for a MT, and performed/handled well. I'd buy them in 33" on 18" if they made them....
