Default Trac-Lok question

Another newbie question here. Is the Trac-Lok limited slip defferential a worthwhile option? This will be our first wrangler and (off roaders cover your ears) will admittedly be a 90% suburban family driver. We would love to start doing some light off roading for weekend fun, but it is not our primary use. We just always loved the wranglers, and now with the 4 door our family can enjoy one.

Given that mission, is the Trac-Lok an option we should get? What does it do for performance in rain, light snow, slippery road conditions. Does it add unneccesary maitenance issues? Is it something the more serious off roaders want or need?

Thanks for any info!

The Trac-Loc is a standard limited slip differential that performs okay on the trail but is better than having a completely open differential in the rear. On road, it's pretty much invisible and the only time it may give you grief is in slippery icy road conditions. However, the ESP that comes standard on all JK's should keep that from ever becoming an issue. So, for your purposes, yes, I would opt for one

Get it! It should be illegal to have a jeep without it. Even if YOU dont ever use it, think about the poor schlub who gets it used years from now wondering what you were thinking not ordering it.

Dont be cheap...its a jeep!!!

Far cheaper to get it as an option than buy one and have it installed later.

I have it and don't notice any adverse affect on the road. Off road its great.

It's $295. Almost everyone who actually ventures offroad ends up on more and more interesting trails. I can't believe its not standard equipment.

Excellent little piece of equipment, it's perfect for the way you will be using your JK.
