Stock JK TechBulletin board forum regarding issues with OE (original equipment) components of the Jeep JK Wrangler (Rubicon, Sahara, Unlimited and X) such as factory suspension parts, engine, transmission, body parts, interior fixtures and the on-board computer.
I have a friend with a JK that the traction control light came on for seemingly no reason. She's wondering if it can be reset somehow or are there common issues that could be the cause. I'm not super familiar with the jk, so appreciate suggestions.
The best place to start is to see what codes are stored. Many auto parts stores will pull the codes for free, but you can also use JScan with a suitable Bluetooth OBDII dongle if you can’t find anyone who will do it. The cost of the license and dongle will be about the same as an hour of labor.
There are many potential causes - wheel sensor, clock spring, etc. - so knowing the code(s) gives you a place to start checking.
Can't agree more with the post above. Anyone that owns a JK should have some sort of scanner, and there really isn't better bang for your buck than the Jscan app and a BT dongle off Amazon. Even for someone that doesn't know anything about cars, you can navigate your way around Jscan. Even if you can't fix something yourself, the scanner can help you narrow things down. Just like School House Rock (for us older folks) taught us, Knowledge is Power!
Common issues would be related to one of the ABS sensors or the steering angle sensor. Less common would be deteriorated wiring or an issue with the ABS module, but usually at that point the lights are on solid. If it's doing it enough times it should throw a code in the ABS module that you can read with a scanner, and that would point to a specific corner on the vehicle with a bad sensor.
having the same issue... JK 2015. the reader is picking up the code C1082, not sure if this is related since the description is vacumm pressure ciruit.
any suggestions?

I think this is related even though it isn't completely logical to us. these are the pages from the service manual for this code.

That is really strange, you wouldn’t think there would be any relationship between the TCS light and vacuum pump. I guess since it does have something to do with the braking system?
Makes me miss my older vehicles - with carburetors, points, and NO computers - even more.

That is no joke. I look at these new vehicles they are cranking out these days and all I can ever see is a huge nightmare electrical situation 10 years down the road. I get to thinking that the JK generation, and cars made up till '2015-2018 might be the last things that are "easy" to deal with, and "easy" is completely relative to today's standards. These things are getting so complex, and it only takes 1 electrical gremlin here or there.....

Concur = why I bought a 2000 XJ with 285,000 miles .. just to have JEEP, with very little electronic control garbago .. The question for the day.. do you own a dwell meter and know how to adjust/set points?

Actually, I do - along with a timing light. All have been sitting on a high shelf in the garage since about 2004 when I sold my ‘71 Ranchero. That was the last vehicle I owned that I could adjust anything on without some sort of electronic tuner.
