Trailer Towing
I'm looking to buy an enclosed trailer to haul a couple of motor scooters and some camping equipment behind my 2009 JKX. I see the gross towing weight is 2000 lbs.. I do not have a towing package but have added a 2" trailer hitch.
Can you tell me what main issues I should be aware of, things to avoid and any other input that experienced trailer pullers can share to ensure I don't compromise our safety or the vehicle? Thanks!

I pulled my boat which probably weights right at the limit of 2k... when i weighed all the baggage in the car and the boat it totaled about a 3100 change from the previous "empty" weight in.
I had no issues from the factory tow setup.
I went from Southern TX to nothern MO, the hills suck you have to gain speed before going up big hills(on stock tuning) if you have the superchips with the tow tune, its amazing how big the difference is.

I tow 2 snowmobiles with my bumper hitch with my covered trailer. I have a 6 speed manual and it is way underpowered for towing. I was riding in 5th or less the whole time. Make sure u keep the trailer balanced front to back and put those little adhesive bubble mirrors on so u can see cars beside you. Factory mirros and co ered trailer leaves you with blind lane changes.
I used to have a 6x12 enclosed that I used for a 4-wheeler and dirt bikes, and it was one brick pulling another brick.
Sure, the Jeep is under-powered, but you won't have any issues. Pay attention to how you load the trailer, and try to keep it balanced. I would guess the 2dr will be more sensitive to this than my 4dr was. It might take several different loads to get it the way you want. Take it easy on the first couple of drives, and remember to give yourself extra stopping distance.

I towed with my 2009 "X", but like others, I felt it was grossly underpowered for towing. I had a 6-speed, and that is why I went with a auto and Unlimited Rubi on my 2011. Completely different towing experience.
I tow a couple of Waverunners on a dual trailer. Tracks great, but don't be in a hurry going up hill. You definitely want to minimize the weight. I've got a Superchips on order. Very interested to see how the tow tune works.

I pull a 6x10 enclosed trailer behind my Rubi 2 door 6 speed with a Superchip. 6th gear is useless, even floored and downshifting hills and headwinds slow it way down, crosswinds make it change lanes, single digit mileage and it needs a LOT of distance for braking.
Other than that, piece of cake.
