Default Tranmission Flush?

So my transmission fluid that should be red, is like a grey color and its quite watery on the dipstick when I check it. However from somewhere else, the transmission is leaking, but the fluid is red and clean. I am actually pretty confused about this and I am not sure what to do. I know if you drop the pan and do all that you only replace like 4 qts out of the 11 or something like that. Ive also read that flushing your transmission is not good for it, but this grey watery fluid cannot be good. Really I cant afford to take it to a shop, I do everything myself since it is MY jeep and I love it way more than some kid, or dude at Jimbo's Transmissions or w.e. Basically I am just wondering where I should go from here. Should i just do the basic drop the pan maintenance, or should I try to flush it or atleast completely empty it (which I am actually not sure how to do, but I am certain I can find out)? thanks!

If in fact your trans fluid is grey that means there is water in your trans. So either you drowned your jeep or your trans cooler let go. Pull the radiator cap and see if there is an oily mess on the inside of the radiator, if not then the cooler is good. Here the down side that means water got into your trans and there is no easy fix for this. You can take it somewhere and get a trans flush which would be a temp fix but the trans is going to let go. The clutch material does not like water. Good luck.

Water in fluid should be pink like pepto..

already had my 2010 tranny rebuilt from water damage. At 14k miles.lucky for me I turned over to my insurance and paid out under comp. And I let the dealer rebuild it...no worries...

Good luck with that

If you want to clear it out you might want to remove as much as possible with a vacuum pump in the dipstick tube. If you get out 4 quarts, replace them with 4 new quarts. Drive it for a few days and do it again. Then again and again. Eventually you'll have pretty new fluid all around. It can get expensive if you go with OEM fluid though at $9 or so per quart. If you drop the pan, have a new filter handy and follow this thread on the subject http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...ission-service. You'll get about 6.5 quarts out that way. Just keep track on how much you got out. Also be sure to use ATF+4 ONLY!

Appreciate it guys. I think im just going to drop the pan and see how it goes from there. I was talking to a mechanic today and apparently the clean fluid is coming from some front pump seal that might be broken, because its dripping out of the little slit at the bottom of the bell housing at a pretty good rate too. The only deal is that the fluid level from the dispstick still shows a good level, if not too much. And, I did have an engine overheating problem not too long ago during a trip to south Florida. Had to park on the side of the road for like 30 mins and fill it with water. I thought the AC caused it because when the AC was on the temp would rise, but as soon as I turned it off the temp went down. perhaps I should flush the radiator too. This honestly seems like it may turn into a Sh*t storm and I really am not looking forward to that. So far however, the transmission is still working perfectly fine, so maybe its not as bad as I am thinking it is. This weekend I'll drop the pan and all that, but as far as fixing this leak, I have no idea what to do. Something that might cost hundreds to a mechanic, or take me a week.........meh

Default here is how to replace all the xmission fluid

Here is how we used to flush all the transmision fluid in an auto trans. First you drop the pan and clean the bottom of the pan and change the filter. Put the pan back on and disconnect the trans cooler hose that feeds the trans cooler at the radiator. Get a 5 gallon bucket and a hose so that you can put the used fluid into the bucket. Fill the trans with 5 qts of fluid, start the engine and the old fluid will start pumping out. Keep adding trans fluid until it rus out red. all the fluid is replaced in trans and torque converter. I did hundreds of trans this way and never had any problems with the transmissions.
