Default Transfer case cable

Have an 07 unlimited and the last month or so the transfer case cable came off the t/c twice... I figured it was missing something because it went back on so loose... I went to local jeep dealership (with very little help), and purchased a plastic bushing and it went on. It worked great for about 2 weeks and came off again... Is there something else that I'm missing?? I'm about ready to tie it up with bailing wire!!! Thanks for any help!

It was Chryslers way of saving money and is pretty common. Check out this thread and do away with the plastic bushing...

the bushing is gone. $3 . pop the bushing in the cable first and pop it on the nipple. buy 2. they sometimes disappear for no reason. easy field fix too. MUD UP!

If the cable is causing enough of a headache then consider going to the Novak cable. It will not fail you.

the e-ring is hardened spring steel and the shift linkage is not. vibration during normal driving and off roading use will start to cut a grove in the shaft...thereby making a nice snap/score in it. I may be an alarmist but....I've seen lesser things cause mayhem. I work on jeeps for a living.

I spent the $ and installed the Adavanced Adapters Transfer case cable and shift upgrade. It's pricey and a little pain, but it will never fail now. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5OrMzFQ2ssg&autoplay=1

Anything is possible.
The e-rings I have seen in use were always on softer steel. Never had a problem as long as the e-ring was of the proper size.
