Default Transfer case fluid

The owner's manual says to inspect the transfer case fluid at 15k miles. What is the best way to do this? Just remove the fill plug and look in?

You should change it at 15K in accordance with the service manual. Just drain it and slap some good transmission oil in it like Royal Purple Synchro Max. That way you'll have some piece of mind when you're out on the trail or whatever you do with your JK

Transfer case uses regular ATF+4 fluid in it, so ya, just open up the fill plug and take a look. It should be ok at 15K unless you've been doing heavy towing or off roading.

Easy to change the fluid, so if you're not sure, just switch it up.
