Default Transfer case shifter doesnt shift anything!!

So i went out on my lunch break for a little wheeling, cycled through all ranges on the tcase no problems. when i was done i shifted back into 2wd and went in no issues on my way back out i saw an obstacle I wanted to climb so I went to shift into 4 but nothing shifter just moves freely and doesnt shift. I have read opther places that the connecting peices are plastic so im guessing thats what it was.(going to tear into it) Has this happened to anyone else? What did it end up being?

Very common. A quick search will bring up a few pages of threads on it, with plenty of pics and comments on how to fix it. Some carry spare clips, some have zip-tied it on there, and some have gone to the new AA shift linkage.

It could be the plastic clip at the t-case, or at the lever in the console. I believe they are the same part number.

yeah took the thing apart it is the bushing at the shifter! thinking about a steel bushing with a c clip but i believe that will wear out the rod end so i will probably just buy several plastic bushings from the dealer and keep them with me when I go out.

This happened to me when I was 5 hours from home on my dad's Oklahoma cattle ranch. It got stuck in 4LO and I had to be home the next day for work. We managed to get the thing back into 2HI and I drove it home.
Do a quick search for fixes but IIRC there may even be a recall on this for a design flaw. I took mine into the stealership and they replaced the whole cable for free. Two years later and I havent had a problem yet.

I went and spent a whole 40 cents on a new bushing, what a waste of time for a part that costs 40 damn cents. I have got to come up with a way to fix this for good. Im sure there are others who have already modified it, i just like figuring things out myself. thats why i didnt take it in on warranty to figure out what was wrong, I like to know how these things work.

I was thinking a steel bushing and possibly a snap ring as it looks like the shaft will hold on a snap ring.
