Default Transmission Casing seal

Alright, boys and girls...here's one for you to roll around your heads and think about for a minute. I took my '07 JK Unlimited X to the shop to have the TSB done for the throw-out bearing squeal (TSB 06-002-07). When I went to pick up the Jeep, one of the service managers told me that there was a lot of mud INSIDE the transmission casing! Now, I've only had my rig in deep mud 2 or 3 times. He told me that they got it all cleaned up, but to be careful in the mud because it can get into the transmission adn possibly void my warranty. I asked about sealing it up better and he told me there's nothing I can do. Any suggestions?

Thats interesting, because I just posted the following in this thread in the modified section.

So I guess this question bears asking then. Can you take the flywheel cover off, seal it up so no or very little water get's in and then run a tube from the "vent hole" up to at least the height of the diffrential vent tube?

Is this possible and would it be worth while?

Anyone have a picture of the flywheel cover, or is it a 1 peice with just a vent hole?

There have been a few guys with busted transmissions for getting mud up in there. If you haven't already checked out that other link posted, or searched any of the other threads, you should know that with a manual, shifting in deep water or mud is a big

Is this a problem in the Auto tranny as well?

Thanx a lot for the info. I'll try to NOT shift while moving through the deep stuff. The shop has cleaned up my tranny, so all should be good as long as I'm carefull with what I'm doing here on out. Live and learn...Right!?!!?

The automatic needs to be sealed so isn't an issue. I believe the issue with a manual is shifting while in the water or muck.

That makes little sense, sorry.

Other than the typical case gaskets for the tranny there are three places it can get into the tranny, not counting a vent.

The input shaft at the clutch end, the tail shaft at the transfer case, and the shift stick. All should have seals. The vents if properly designed will allow stuff to go out, but not in.

A fix for poor vents would be a check valve.

So just how is water or mud getting in, and if it gets in the tranny then why not the transfer case.

All this thread reinforces is that if you go throw standing deep water or mud then change your lubricates.
