Default Transmission/Engine Question

OK, just ordered a new 2012 JK with the TracLOK and the 3.73 gears. When I let up the gas to stop the jeep feels like the brakes kicks in before you apply. Is that the 3.73 gears causing that? My 08 unlimited had 4.10s in the rear and I didnt notice it to do that. You took your foot of the gas and it just rolled. This one seems to brake before I even put my foot on the pedal.

Is this normal with the 2012's? Thanks!!

Mine does this too, I've come to the conclusion it's the low gears, the fact it's a 4x4, and a giant wind baffle. All of these put together slows down the Jeep quickly. No big deal really, I'm in love with it still.

Yea, I love this 2012 better than the 08. And the 08 was an unlimited. I went back to a 2 door with the 2012.

Mine does this to but how else will it eat so much fuel if you don't always have to throttle it lol? really I think a lot of it is when the torque converter locks up with the engine at speed and let of throttle but I'm guessing

I think it's because instead of just freewheeling after you let up on the gas, the jeep keeps the converter locked up. And I've noticed it even downshifts on its own at times. I suspect this is for the decel fuel shut off; if the rpms are high enough and you are coasting in gear the engine uses no fuel. Momentum keeps everything turning but it does cause drag through the drivetrain so that's why you would feel that deceleration.
