Default transmission install...

so i am trying to install another trans in my jk and i am having some problems. i called the dealer i bought it from and the mechanic said i had to align the bell housing bolts up, tighten them down then install the flexplate bolts. everything is in its original position (all marking that were made when removed from orgianal jk are lined up). i aligned the bell housing bolts and tightened them down in sequence. i did notice that when i started to tighten the bolt on the driver side (under where the starter sits) the flexplate got closer to the engine, instead of moving with it in unison. now let me explain that my converter is ALL THE WAY IN AND SET. i installed the first flexplate bolt and went to turn it to install the rest of them and i cant turn it. not even from the front of the engine. i am at a loss. help?!!!

Do you have the instructions from the factory service manual?

what do you mean by flexplate bolts? The bolts that attaches the plate to the crank or converter? You said the converter is in the trans properly, how many times did you feel the converter set in place? Is it the correct converter? Did you remove the flexplate and is it on backwards?

Sounds like the torque converter isn't seated all the way. When it is, there will be a little room in between the torque converter and flex plate until you install the bolts. They will pull the converter to the flex plate.

the converter must be turned carefully until the pump drive slots on the face of the converter drop into the pump in the tranny. Then install the tranny. The converter is wedged between the pump drive and the crankshaft. Don't tighten or move anything until you pull it back and reseat the converter into the pump.

That's exactly why I was wondering if he has tech data. I would send it to him if he says he doesn't have it.

It would answer a lot of questions for him.
