Default Transmission Issues

Just had Speed Sensor Cylinoid replaced in 08 Rubicon with 11K miles on it due to failure. Techs noticed "large amount of debris" in tranny filter and fluid. They say could be from torque converter... anyone have issue with this in a vehicle with this few of miles on it? Is my transmission about to go out? Should I upgrade transmission? If so, to what? Running stock Rubicon transmission with 35's. Suggestions? Sympathies? etc.?

Are you the first owner? If so , you have a "Lifetime Powertrain Warranty" and it would be covered. If not the original owner, you have the remainder of the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty ( that's 3 years, 36,000 miles from the original in-service date. Mileage -wise, at 11,000 you're good; now look to see what month in 2008 it was "in service" You can call a dealer or Chrysler with the vin # for that info, don't put it off. With the right timing on this, you are covered...Good Luck !

Default Out of Warranty Coverage

Passed 3 years in January and am not the first owner... warranty does not apply in any case. I've been round and round with Chrysler over that. No, I'm just looking for someone that may have had a similar situation and what they ended up doing to resolve it; Replace transmission with an upgraded model? leave it alone? etc.

(thanks for reply)

Post Good Will Hunting

If it's running and shifting OK after the fluid/filter change, why not use it and in the meanwhile find a back-up with the HD RV componets ? Then, should it go, downtime will be minimal. That really should be repaired under the "GoodWill " warranty , as it was close to the time allowance, and well under the mileage limit for 3/36. Have you taken this up with the Regional Rep ? The # I found most helpful in difficult situations was 1-800-992-1997 .Try it?

No upgraded model available unless you go with a Hemi swap. The 42RLE just plain sucks. Read any forum about vehicles where this tranny is used and you'll see similar complaints all centered around the @#$^%&* torque converter. Mine was replaced twice under warranty and it's still not right. Better, but not right. Word of advice.........when you think you've got it sorted out to the best of your (Chrysler's) ability, put a good tranny cooler on it.

Reginal rep was less than helpful, but thanks for the suggestion... apparently there is no "good will" at Bob Howard Jeep in OKC.

In a completly new development my water pump is leaking anti-freeze. Yeah for me.

I am the second owner of this Jeep, it is a 2008 with 11K miles on it. The previous owner babied it. It was his weekend town cruiser. Before I owned it it had never even been down a dirt road let alone off road. This is the 4th Jeep I have owned (just sold a '98 wrangler) and I have had more problems with it in the 3 months I've owned it then the 6 years I owned the 98 Wrangler. And, at least the stuff I broke on the 98 I broke wheelin'. This hunk of crap is just sitting in my driveway breaking. It's effin frustrating.

Sounds like mine when I first bought it........and mine was new. I wanted to drive up the salesman's ass. Eventually, however, I managed to get all the problems sorted (with no help from Chrysler and very little from the dealer) and now I wouldn't be without it. Most fun I've ever had on four wheels. Good luck with the problems.

Was the "speed sensor solenoid" failure responsible for the debris found in the trans ? Was the dealer you bought it from the original selling dealer? What I'm hinting at , is there a dealer-maintenance paper trail on this? How do you know it was "babied'? I've seen "babied" Jeeps lent to the wrong person(s) and come back with amazing hidden damage in a few hours "use". My sympathies, I hope you can use it and enjoy ,take the top & doors off, all will be forgiven...

Default Babied

I know the guy I bought it from and I know it was babied. He buys some "toy" every few years to just cruise in on the weekends. He sold me the jeep and bought a convertible Camero.

The problem I think stems from the fact that it sat for about the last 9 months he owned it. His wife had some health probs and he was out of town caring for her. Anyway, I'll always own a jeep ( I have since '95) and you are right... the weather is warming up, the top is off, all is forgiven (except I think my wallet is still holding a grudge).
