Default Transmission Question

I have and 09 with manual transmission about 7k miles. Ocassionally like 4 time in last 6 months when starting off it pops out of 1st gear and drops me into neutral, kinda feels like i got rear ended when it happens. What could be causing this? Im fairly new to driving a manual. Is it something i should have the dealer check out? Thanks

i have a manual as well. never had this happen but herd of it lots. generally what holds it in gear is a combination of the syncro for that gear and the shifter detents. ........................bring it back

Check the shifter boots. There's an inner and an outer. Lots of people have had problems with one or the other actually pushing it outta first. If that's what it is, it's a pretty easy fix to loosen up and adjust whichever boot it is.

We have that same problem on our 08 JK Sahara with 11k miles on it. Our local dealership (name withheld to protect the innocent) is "unable to replicate the problem". I said to the service writer: OK, you have examined the vehicle and have choosen not to do anything since the issue is intermittant and cannot be reproduced in your standard 50 yard test drive. We will drive the vehicle until the transmission fails, and since it has been documented as occuring under warrenty, it will be covered right?

He turned a shade of green and requested we bring the vehicle back and redocument a few more times. In my book either once the vehicle pops out of first EVERY time, the transmission has failed. Since I have been told you can't change the shifter forks without pulling the box, what does it matter how many internal transmission parts they replace once the box it out?

Our OTHER four wheel drives uses gthes the old NP420 gear box and I can bull the top cover FAST.
