Never had the "hot oil" light come on.
A lot of forum members have put on the auxiliary coolers. Apparently the trans can, under certain conditions, alternate locking and unlocking the torque converter, causing excess heat build up. The conditions seem to be wheeling in 4-hi, wheeling in sand in 4-hi, hilly terrain, and stop/go traffic.

it a good $60 investment, excess heat = shorter life for ATF

Ron, it's Liberty KJ that no longer has the dipstick; seems liberty owners can't handle the added responsibility!!

You did that ("instaed") on purpose to see if any of us are paying attention, didn't you?

As far as I am concerned Arizona 115*F summers are hard enough on a transmission.

For my own piece of mind I plan on replacing the tranny fluid every 30k miles.

I did the same at 30k. I'm nearing my 2nd service at 60k. I run my jeep hard, so a little extra money every 3yrs is worth while to me. Plus, I don't trust Jeeps service recommendations. They also state that 5w20 and 6k was OK.

I would consider 60k bare min.... 30k smart.

The fluid used is a "suspension" fluid. As in: designed to hold trash in the fluid. Thats why it looks burnt after a while. A flush replaces most of the 11qts. Dropping the pan replaces only 3/4qts but replaces the filter, which is more like a screen. Seems a flush with the correct fluid is best IMHO.

Jeep wants to sell vehicles, hense long service intervals!
