Default A " transmission stuck in park or gear fix"

So last night the wife pulls the jeep out to run the kids around. She backs out of drive way then goes to shift in to drive but it doesn't catch. She then moves shifter around and it locks into park. It will not come out of park, luckily the transmission is some how in neutral. So we push the jeep into the garage. I then pulled out center console (ebrake is a pain to work around) and found

It slid back on with no issues but I didn't want a repeat so I opted for a improvised cotter pin.

First step drill 1/16" hole

Then find small nail to turn in to a small cotter pin

Insert and done.

I then checked travel and zip tied some of the wires together to keep them out if the way.

Figured I post this up to help someone else.

Nice!
It won't come loose again, that's for sure.

I wonder if the same thing will work with the t-case lever.

My upper transfer case shifter was held on with a retaining washer / push nut. Didn't look to much at lower connections for either. once I found my problem child. Ill have to look now.
