Try This!? "Maybe" Related to Stall Bug- Just a thought
Normally when starting a car, you hold the ket in the crank position- car turns over and over until it starts.
When I went to start my JK this morning, I turned it to crank for a second then let go and it kept cranking till it started.
I did this a few times to see if it was a glitch, but thats what it does.
So I'm wondering if the CPU that knows the key was in the crank position then reads the chip in the key has a fault.
While driving if the chip key reader losses the key signal, "would it or it may that" stop the JK and restart after it reads the key again?
any thoughts?

Do you have Auto? becuase That cranking you've described is an extra feature for Auto - you don't need to hold your key on crank. Just turn in to start, and let go, and the engine will crank until it starts.....
You can find this described in the owner's manual

Very good catch.
If I'm not mistaken, one time when using a non-chipped key cut only for additional door entry,I'm pretty sure mine started but immediately shut down. Looked over at the missus and said what the he.. before realising what I'd done.
Didn't try to duplicate in case something screwed up.
I'm pretty sure you could be right though-heard about that on other vehicles somewhere.

My brother in law just had a problem with his keys to his Dakota.
It would start up and just as it set at idle it would just shut off.
Because of reading this board I had heard someone mention that it reacted like this with a cut key.
He took it in and they "reprogrammed" his keys and it has worked fine after that.
I wish we didn't have this feature, I know it's an anti-theft feature but I think it will cause more problems than it's worth. Just my .02$

Yes, a non-chipped, or unprogrammed key that is cut to your Jeep WILL start the Jeep momentarily. (I tried it) I believe this is mentioned in the manual but i dont have mine handy to check.
I suppose it is possible that the computer is losing it's signal... ...interesting theory.

Nope that's not it. The computer only looks for the transponder in the key when they engine is started. I have the mopar remote starter kit. If I start it with that. It has a built in transponder to "fake" the computer and let it to start. I can put a regular non-chipped key in and push the brake to turn off the remote starter. The engine stays on and I have driven it many places like that.

My dealership lost my second key upon delivery of the JK. They tried to cut a new key but said they were unable to program it. Using the key that would not program, the jeep would start and then cut off. They told me to keep the key as a spare door key.
They said they had to order a new computer for the jeep. Of course it was on backorder and just arrived this week. I called yesterday to take it in and they said I would need to leave it because it would take several hours.
