Tweeting/chirping noise from AC/Heater fan
There has been a high-pitched tweeting or chirping sound coming from my AC/heater fan for a while, and it's driving me crazy(er). The service department at the dealership said it was likely the sound of air moving through the vents, but when I pulled off the glove box door, I can hear it clearly coming from the fan motor to the left of the glove box opening.
When I adjust the vents and move the control for which ducts are used the tweeting sound does not change, so I'm guessing the problem lies with the fan motor itself.
Anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a solution short of a) having the motor replaced or b) not using the AC/heat?
The rest of the system seems to work fine... plenty of heat and the AC worked fine the last time I had to use it.
Thanks.

I had the same thing. Only sounded more like a idling diesel truck. I removed the fan assembly and found a tape dot covering a hole on the bottom. This covered the lower bearing. Put a few drops of oil in and the noise is gone.
I also spent some time trying to remove the fan to get to the upper bearing, but not going to happen.
There are just 3 screws holding the fan assembly in.

i have your problem!
i had my jk for about 3-6 months before it started doing that, i took it to the dealer and told them about a sort of faint, fluttering, whislte noise coming from the vents. They gave me that "you must be some special kind of stupid" look, said it was probably a leaf or something and that it would disolve over time, then reminded me that for them to look at it the cost wouldn't be cheap.
ive been living with this noise ever since, it would be nice to cut down on the symphony of different, don't-sound-like-they-should-be-there noises. ill have to try what kmccon said-good thinking

I have the same problem, the only difference is my changes with the fan speed. My service department said they couldn't replicate a squeaking noise but.... It's clearly there. Good luck with that! Joe
Dropped the JK off with the dealer yesterday after work. The service manager noted on the ticket that this was a re-occurring proboem, and that they would address it. Actually, I gave him something of a laundry list of small things to fix: the fan as mentioned, the gasket on the passenger door, tire rotation/balance, and a FLASH update. What the hey... might as well get it all while they have it for a day.
Anyway, I'll post back what they did to the fan. And just to clarify, the tweeting was coming from the fan, and it would change tempo when the fan sped up. With the blower at full speed the sound of the air in the vents drowned the sound of the chirping, but at speeds one and two (and a little at three) you could hear it clearly.

The dealership changed the fan under warranty last weekend, and the chirping is gone. The fan is quiet, and I am happier. After I suggested they pull the glovebox out and listen, they agreed that they could hear it quite clearly.
Took all of 30 minutes for them to listen, decide, and then swap motors.
