Default U-Joint Fitment Debacle

Hey all,

Hope you're enjoying your 4th weekend. Bit rainy up here in New England.

I'm having some problems finding the right fit U-Joints for my girlfriend's 2015 Wrangler Sport. Specifically, we are looking for the U joints at the wheel.

I originally ordered SKF #UJ20057 from RockAuto, which was supposed to be a direct fit. However, her mechanic said that those parts were too big. He showed my GF and she confirmed that the new parts are significantly bigger than the old ones. The mechanic wants to order Mopar part #68476678AA from the local dealership. These are $100+ each which is... a lot for a U joint... and she is on a tight budget.

This is where it gets weird. I tried to find a #68476678AA aftermarket equivalent, and could not. I was able to figure out that part # superceded #68145053AA, which has a direct replacement from spicer on rockauto.

Now, comparing the dimensions of 68145053AA and UJ20057, which I originally ordered... they are exactly the same. So something isn't adding up. I cannot find specs for mopar #68476678AA anywhere.

Has anyone run into such fitment issues before? Did Jeep switch to a smaller u-joint at some point?

Look at the spicer 5-7166x. Thats the joint that should fit a 2013+ jk dana 30 or 44 front stub shaft.
