Default Uncontrolable horn?

Did a search and found lots of horn problems but nothing like this.

Today while driving down the highway, for no reason, my horn goes off.....one long steady hoooooooooonk for about 1 minute then it finnaly went off on its own. I have no idea why.

Then just a few minutes ago I'm coming home and again it just goes off.....I hit and hit the wheel but nothing. I had to pull over and unplug the damn thing.

Any ideas......

With this fly by wire stuff people are talking about, will it hurt to drive with it unplugged?

wont hurt anything. In fact i hate my horn so much i plan on bypassing the stock one completely button and all, and just using an aftermarket horn with a dash mounted switch.

Could be a wire off just inside the steering wheel cap

Mine Did This And I Was At Work It Was Apparently Honking Most Of The Day. When I Went Out The Horn Was Hot From Honking So Much. I Pushed The Ground Wire To The Horn Back In And It Stopped. That Was 4 Months Ago And Has Not Done It Since.

I would say it sounds like a loose connection, probably a ground wire connection, and whne you hit a bump in a particular way, it will sound the horn when it grounds out the system. Checkthe connections on teh horn it self, then check connections on the steering wheel. Then chase the wire from the steering to the horn if you haven't found anything yet. After all that it might just be a defective horn, since they appear to be a problem.

Well, first of all... I wish there was video of that happening!!

But, yeah, you should take it to the dealer-- that is not normal.

The same thing happened to me on the way home from camp jeep. I had to pull off the side of RT 81 and disconect it. Talk about dangerous! I plugged it back in the next day and its been fine since.
