Theres a couple of different options with locking "mechanisms" including automatic or manual methods... One of the most popular options is Arb's Pneumatic (compressed air lockers)... You initiate the system on demand... See here:

Also, if you install a new locker in your rear, you'd be pulling out the LSD.
