my JK used about 1 quart between 6600miles and 8600 miles. is this normal?

Sounds like quite a bit to me, but you'd be shocked how much oil you can burn before a motor is "out of spec" according to manufacturers.
I'd dump another quart in and keep running. Check the oil now and then and see if it gets better or worse as your mileage gets higher.
You may just have to get in the habit of adding a quart halfway between your oil changes.

Check the bottom of the oil filter for a small drip. I was down a quart and noticed the oil filter wasn't sealed against the gasket properly. Tightened it by hand and the problem was solved.

no leaks but gas mileage has increased 2-3 miles per gallon.runs smooth.added another qt. of syn.will keep a close eye on it. thanks
