Warranty Claim Denied!!! Chrysler Alleges "Sun" is Defective!
Dear Board Members:
My JK after this summer driving around town has resulted in significant fading and discoloration of the interior and rollbar covers. In fact, when you slide the rear seatbelt to the side you reveal a dark gray color vs. the pale gray which has resulted from the sun exposure during normal driving and the black roll bar has become somewhat brown.
Chrysler claims the "Sun" is the cause for the defect. In other words, the Jeep Wrangler they advertise as the only 4 door convertible on the market if and when exposed to the sun discolors the seats are not defective. It is the sun that has the defect. So they are telling us consumers not to have an expectation in the YES Essential fabric they have manufactured for the "only 4 door Convertible" and that we should drive it at all times with the top (soft or otherwise on at all times).
Further, when you read the Owners Manual it states specifically, NOT to use any type of product (i.e. Scotchguard) on the YES Essential Fabric.
If any others have had similar experiences please share. Thank you!

Ha, not to be a smartass, but did you really think they would give you new covers because they fade?
However, mine were fading really bad, almost turning to a pinkish color. Way past grey. Used the 303 Fabric cleaner (with one of the tire plastic brushes) and then applied their guard and it brightened them right back to black. Rain pretty much trickles off of them now.
Highly suggest you just pick up that and call it quits with the dealerships unless its a mechanical problem. Hope that helps you.

I think I saw something mentioned in the owners manual about staying out of direct sunlight. So that's the dealer's out.
I'm showing some fadings too, mainly on the roll bar padding. 2 door back seat is out so no problem there.
Carpets are out. So they are OK.
G.E.A.R seat covers on front. So there may be some issues on the parts they don't cover.
Get forumla 303. Spray everthing. All the fabric and plastic needs a good sunblock.
Don't forget to spray your spare tire.
If not, only take the top down on cloudy days.

yea it sucks that the interiors fade.. but the sun tends to fade everything.. I know i had a conv. mustang with a black headliner and the front section of the headliner faded to a nice tan/pink color from the sun.. I wouldnt call it a defect.. just the sun doing its thing.
I have a remodeling business and we always have issues with siding colors being faded and what not....

...honestly, you should have a reasonable level of expectation that this would occur, come on now, lets be serious, everyone knows that the sun fades EVERYTHING...just how it goes.
Try parking it under shade when not in use, use those sun reflectors in the windows when parked...etc. etc.
Now, to get your color back, I dig what the others suggest with regards to fabric dyes and vinyl spray colors, I've used them in the past on other vehicles and can say I've never been dissapointed...good luck
