Went to NAPA Auto Parts and purchased a new Tru-Flow Water Pump TFW 42588 for $45.39. A dealership had one for $65.00, but I didn't feel like driving that far to get it.

I know a city employed mechanic, asked if he did work on the side and he said he did. He told me he would get the parts and the cost would be between $250 and $275, could possibly be a little higher. I did it myself for $65 (pump and antifreeze) and it took about 1 hour and 15 minutes and I am not a mechanic.

One of the guys on this forum got quoted $1100 by the dealer to replace the waterpump!

The JK's waterpump would have to be one of the easiest ones I've ever seen to gain access to; due to the longutudinally-mounted V6 sitting way back there in the engine bay there's no fan shrouds, etc to get in the way, and all the bolts are easy to get at without removing pulleys, etc or having to use special tools, and you have almost a foot of workspace between it & the radiator. So if it took yourself (a non-mechanic) 1 & 1/4hrs to do it taking your time, an experienced mechanic could probably nail it in 25-30 minutes easy. So looks like some dealers are charging $2000 an hour for labor!

I read a how to change a water pump thread (with pictures) on this forum and that really helped. Especially how to take the tension off the belt, so it could be removed. I need to find the thread so I can thank him for his assistance.

We have $80k Audis with 3,000 miles come in for water pumps so don't feel bad at 36k! Actually, we have recalls because they have been using plastic impellers on the pumps instead of metal

Oh FYI. You prob 99.99999999% chance the dealer wouldn't even charge you. 6 miles past warranty, that be ridiculous for a major part to fail and not cover it. Every dealer has a " good will" allowance that they use when something can't be turned in to warranty claims and they do not want to pay out of pocket

I relaced my waterpump at 56000. I still had a leak behind the lower radiator hose and watched it for a few weeks. I knew it was the front seal. Took it to my Jeep dealer and sure enough, front seal and oil seal. cost me 100 out of the 800 total thx to an extended warranty. No more leaks! I hate anyone work'n on my Jeep, but when you pay for a warranty, got to use it!
