Question water in tubular running boards

My daughter's JK has the chrome tubular running boards and they keep getting water in them. I am thinking about drilling some holes in the bottom of them but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. Sorry I shouldn't have put this question in the stock jk tech. How do I move it or delete it?

I did this on my Avalanche, and the problem I encountered after I drilled the holes was rust. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how water was getting in, but drilling the holes ruined the coating on them and led to the rust happening faster.

Mine are pealing off the chrome. I was thinking of blasting them and then coat with high temp paint.
