Default Weird sound when starting engine

About once every two weeks or so, my engine makes a loud, quick, grinding noise right as it's turning over. It sounds like it's coming from inside the firewall, not under the hood.

I'm sorry I can't be any more specific than that, but if you've ever heard it, you'll know what I'm talking about. I have a 2008 Sahara Unlimited with about 3,500 miles on it. Bought it new in March.

Anyway, instead of having the shop look at it for 10 days only to say they couldn't find anything wrong with it - thought I'd check here first.

Any thoughts?

I have an auto, and mine has only done it in the morning, as well....

Hopefully someone has an idea of what it is

Grinding noise, not as it is cranking, but right when it fires up on its own.
On mine, which does it only on very cold mornings, I attribute it to the Bendix not retracting quickly enough.

Hmm, well mine does it in the morning, but not just when it's cold. It does it when it's warm too (and by warm I mean 90 degrees).

?? dunno if its the same noise. mine made a grind sound when i'd start it up after it sat overnight. the oil filter was the cause. fixed it by using a motorcraft filter instead of the mopar one

Another thread migration.
We have gone from a grinding noise on start up, to a knocking noise on start up.
Two totally different things, in my opinion.
The OP was asking about a grinding noise.
