Default What is this?????

Come out after lunch to get something out of the Jeep. Had been parked for maybe 1 hour like this and there is fluid running down the inside of the driver side tire from the behind u-joint. Is it an axle seal?

Dealer installed the gears for me so it should be taken care of....just wondering how long I can drive it like this since it usually takes a week or so to get an appt. Here are some pics.

yeah... thats the axle seal. that's happened on both sides of the rear axle of my blazer and it did the exact same thing. there was enough of a leak that it would drip like that. maybe they tried to re-use the seals instead of replacing them like they should? you should be fine as long as there is fluid in the diff. just keep an eye on it and add as needed till you get the seal fixed.

That has happened to both of my axles.

i filled the front tube with mud which ruined the driver side seal.

The idoit mechanic at the dealer overfilled my diff at the dealership and blew the rear seal.

I'd think if your dealer installed it, then you tell them to get it in tomorrow and get it fixed, you should not have to wait and possibly cause more damage if they screwed something up.

The install was several months ago and several thousand miles ago. I have a call in to the service writer so we will see what happens....

They gave me the old seals and bearings back as i had them install all new parts. Wonder why it would blow now?

Looks like a big rat walked by and pissed on your tire.
