Default What does this button do?

Hi guys. 1st time jeep owner here. I've always loved jeeps and decided to treat myself to a 2012 Unlimited Sport. I have a question that i can't seem to find an answer to. I might have missed it while searching through the forum but can't seem to find it or even in the owners manual.

What does the button next to the electronic stability control and hazard light button do? It's got a picture of a speedometer with a jeep pointing at a downward slant. I'm assuming its for the Hill Assist, but actually have no clue.

Thanks!

I think I remember seeing the button when I jumped in one at the dealer. I am guessing you have an auto? I believe it gears down and keeps your speed nice and slow when in 4lo going down hill so you don't start gaining speed without having to apply the brakes so you don't overheat them or cause and slippage.

I drive a stick so no such button in mine.

Hill descent control. Helps with engine braking and probably wheel braking on steep declines (though not sure about wheel brakes being used on JKs with this).

It's your hill assists button. It uses your ABS system to control speed and movement. When engage you can be stopped on an incline and let go the brakes and the jeep wont move at all. Cool feature but with my JKU I never had to use it. So not sure of the usefulness

its downhill asist and its awesome only in automatics though keeps brakes from locking up but controls speed down hill.

Thanks guys! Wow i'm totally impressed with the helpfulness of everyone on the forum. Yah its the 5 speed auto. Hopefully it should come in handy here in the hill country.

In my Liberty that was the hill descent control. Holds you at 1-2 mph going down a steep hill.
Only activates in 4lo. If your dash light is blinking, it is not engaged. Find yourself a steep hill and play with it.
