What does UConnect cost to install ?
the U-connect module has to be turned on by the dealer.. it will show up as an HFM in the star-scan..
I installed it in my 2008,2009, and 2010 wranglers.. I had the radio with the U-connect phone buttons already on it..
I dont know if any of this stuff has changed with the 2011 as in 08-10 I had no steering wheel button capabilities..
in my case because ive bought so many wranglers the Dealer was nice and just turned on the thing.. except I got charged once I think.. but its typical a half hour of labor billed to do it if you have installed the hardware correctly yourself..

Yes, install the kit and have the dealer activate it and you are all set. Also worth getting the USB cable for it, which would give you a USB port for charging your phone or playing music from it as well. Should also have Bluetooth streaming with the newer kit for the 11+ as well.
In addition, if you want to go all out, you can buy the steering wheel switch and install it, and then you will have those buttons as well.

When I bought my 2011 it had the cheapest radio available and no Uconnect. I found a 730N navigation system for sale on this forum that did not have steering wheel controls and did my own install. After a couple of tries the newly installed nav realized that it was no longer in Texas and displayed my correct location and MY Jeep VIN. The radio controls in my steering wheel also worked. I later noticed that the radio/nav had the Uconnect feature so I paired my phone to it and everything worked with no dealer intervention or flashing at all. In addition, I really loved having touch screen control of my Ipod.
My point is that you could get the Uconnect AND navigation for not much more than purchasing the Uconnect and having to pay the dealer to do it's thing.
Just a thought....

I picked up a 730n in 2012 to install in my 2011 JKU. I found it off kijiji for a good price, I was lucky. After that I had to buy the sat antenna and the mic. I bought both of these from the dealer, I want to say $150-200 approx but don't remember. I installed it all myself so really only cost was the 730n + sat antenna and mic. I hope this is what you were looking to find out. Really the only other cost was my time, which is free

It's not hard to install, you just need the patience I found to take everything apart. I will add the pics I was going to use to create a write up, which I will admit I didn't end up doing. My bad. If you have any question please ask! One word of advice i will add is DON'T leave you dash in the back of your Jeep for a week as I did waiting to get all parts to complete install. It sat sat in the sun and warped slightly and in the end didn't end up sitting flush under the deck above the window controls. Pissed me off as I am a perfectionist
Here are my install pics. I can only add 5 per post so I will have more posts to included the pics. Sorry if they are slightly out of order. Ask any questions. Just sharing my finds!

I installed the mic right behind the steering wheel in front of the dash. I've seen it installed in other spots but this location works well for me. Before putting the deck and dash back in I installed a usb cable that runs from the back of the deck right into my glove box so I can hook up a usb key or hard drive at anytime to play music from, very handy.
It was a bit of research in the beginning for me as I found nobody went this route that I could find, so I hope sharing my findings help others out. It was trial and error for me but all good in the end. Just take your time not to rip the dash out to quick so you don't break any of the clips off that hold it in. Enjoy!
