What would be the benefit of doing a regear other then having a stronger set up?

You will get most of your previous power and performance back.

Stupid question but after rehearing, with the larger tires aren't you still going to take some sort of performance hit?

Well to be clear your jeep will absolutely be slower and suck more gas with bigger tires. Your transmission will be unhappy remaining in overdrive at higher speeds and will hunt between overdrive and 3rd gear. Regearing will bring back some of your acceleration and the transmission won't hunt as much and for many folks that has improved their mileage, but not all the way back to the stock mpg. Clear as mud?
