It is also a splash diverter. Salty water splahes and grime will increase in engine compartment deposits.
I took mine off to remove my bumper and never put it back on. The plastic holding pieces are $6.50 each (ouch) if you ever lose them.

Quite a few people have reported a noticeable decrease in mpg after removing this. Also, some have said that removing it makes the hood lift worsen.

Default aftermarket solution

I don't understand why this post was moved and if so where to but in any event, I pose my question.

Does anyone out there know of an aftermarket solution to the plastic wind diverter thingy (that's what DC calls it also)?

If so, please post either links or pics.

Default front skid plate from A.E.V.

Check out front bumper skid plate from A.E.V.supposed to work with stock bumper or their bumper.very similar to factory plastic thingy for those of you wanting to replace it with something more practical retails for around $300 USD.I have the A.E.V.rear corner gaurds and the quality of their powdercoat and fit and finish of stampted construction is top notch

x2. Jeep looks way better without it, but I have lost about 1-1.5 mpg and my hood lifts worse than before.
