The 2007 and up wranglers are available with either the NP231 or NP241OR transfer case. The primary difference is the gearing.

NP231 - 2.72:1 low range
NP241OR - 4:1 low range

EDIT: If a 2007 truly has a NP272 have you confirmed that it is not possibly an aftermarket replacement?

The only thing I can find in the '07 parts manual is the NVG 241. They have them coded out as DHE "Generation II" and DHW "4:1 Rock-Trac". Any mention of an NP272 is escaping my search.
