Default wheel/tire question..

upgrading from 16 inch stock 245's to 18inch stock 255, possibly 265. do i need to do anything to my jeep as far as wheel balance, re-tune? for speed accuracy?

Yes. If the rim / tire combination diameter is larger or smaller than stock then the on board electronics will need to be reprogramed for the new diameter. This will correct the speedometer and the shift point if you have an auto tranny. The attached link will lead to rim and tire calculator so you can see what the difference will be:

Is this something that I could do myself or do I need to take it to the stealership? And how about wheel balance? Or alignment

I assume you are buying Sahara rims with tires on them off of somebody. No you should not need to re-balance the tires. No you will not need an alignment. Yes you can jack up your Jeep one wheel at a time and just switch them out, remember to torque properly.

Yes you'll need to go to the dealer to get them to re-flash the computer so you have the proper speedometer reading and shift points. Unless of course you have a programmer like the superchips flashpaq.

it will vary by dealer...$50-$150 depending. I would suggest that you buy an AEV Procal from David at Northridge 4x4 at $150 or less shipped to you. This way, you can flash yourself and if you need to change anything in the future, it is free. Just my
