Wheel weights
Saw our new Rubicon at the dealer today, and going to pick it up tomorrow. I notice they put wheel weights on the outside of the rims. Has anyone noticed any damage to the clearcoat of the wheels when changing tires? I'm a bit of a perfectionist and am going to ask them to rebalance all 5 tires with weights on the inside of the rims so down the road the clearcoat isn't buggered when the weights come of.
Anyone else this crazy?

I am.....and my weights are on the inside of the rim. I don't know about stock wheels though (mine are aftermarket), but they probably are all like that I'm guessing. And, on other vehicles I've had with the same type/finish wheels, there has been damage you can see when they take off/move the weights around. Most people probably don't care, but I know how you feel.
I also prefer not to see the wieghts on the outside,,, however, it does give a better/more accurate balance for the wheel and i had a hard time getting them balanced right, so i finally just said to put the wieghts wherever they need to be and get it balanced right, and i now they are balanced right... only took like 6 or 7 balances
Weights on both wheel lips ("dynamic" balance) does indeed yield a better balance than weights on the inside lip only ("static" balance) or stick on weights on the inside (alloy type balance). This is kind of a form vs. function issue, I reckon. Whatever makes you comfortable.
