Whining while in gear
have a 2dr 07 with 50k on it.... started hearing a whine while on the gas at higher rpms.... its gotten worse, now it whines as soon as i touch the gas in all gears except reverse, any ideas what this could be?
also, bought the jeep at a toyota dealership with an "aftermarket" warranty, I have been trying to get a Jeep dealer to accept the warranty because I would rather have mechanics that understand typical jeep problems, should I trust the toyota dealership making the repairs?

don't change any fluids from factory specs until your problem is diagnosed. If an auto tranny, check your fluid level. If fluid level is okay, it could be a bad pump. Does the whining stop after warmup? If so you may need a fluid and filter change on the tranny. Look at your serpentine belt. Is it glazed or cracked? Listen to your idler pulley and alternator. Does the noise change if your wheels are turned? Check your power steering pump fluid.
Don't be nervous about using the Toyota dealer. They are the most likely to fully warranty you since they sold you the expensive warranty and they won't lose anything but filing a claim for you. The dealer actually makes money on both ends thus way. Also, if it is a difficult repair it's very common for them to outsource the work to the jeep dealer and the Toyota dealer will still get a cut.
I've noticed that my '07 JK does this, but it tends to go away after warm up. It almost sounds like gear whine. The colder it is out, the more pronounced it is. I think it's my power steering pump.
its def not the power steering pump, but it does get a bit quieter after warming up, but its still there the whole hour drive home from work. Thanks for the input guys, ill head to the dealer tuesday to get it checked out, ill keep you posted
clutch stopped working tonight, made it 45 minutes from the dealership with no clutch, made for a pretty interesting ride... learned how to straight shift with no clutch, pretty fun

Weird,,,,, I have an automatic, and I have the same sound. As soon as it warms up by driving 5 miles , sometimes less, temperature dependent, it goes away for the entire day. Does it sound as if your Diffs have low fluid , not a grinding noise but a whine as what the OP said. Stops as soon as you let off the accerlator. I checked all of my fluids, all ok. If the outside temp is 45 or above it does not show up. No issues with the driveability of my Jeep. Must be a Jeep thing...lol

SLIMyea, at first I didnt think anything of it... it became a problem within a day of me posting this. I bought a jeep knowing that there could be problems, so I am not pissed by any means, but its a bummer that I drove a ford ranger 150k miles without a clutch problem, and now within the first 10k miles of ownership my clutch stopped working. But whatever, i still love it

Getting back to the Jeep, I had the same feeling, I love the Wrangler, and seem to have a high tolerance factor for my baby..lol So far she has been good to me. I read many threads on here to learn from other members to keep in the know , and do all of my own maintenance. Hopefully, I will have my Wrangler for many years, most awsome ride I ever owned.
