Default Wind Noise

I tried to find whether this had been addressed before in another thread (I'm sure it has, so I apologize for the repost of an old question), but I'm having a very annoying wind noise from the passenger side softtop...it's clearly just from that location, but no matter how many times I open and close the top to get it cinched tight, it's still there. Driver's side is fine.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Would rather not put a piece of speed tape on the outside of the jeep...

Thanx!!

KZ ( if I may)- be VERY specific on exactly where you are picking up the wind noise. The JK has several trouble sites for noises, do you have 2 or 4 dr ? The first thing to check (if you have manual windows) is to insure the weight of your glasses hasn't caused one of them to roll itself down a little bit. This is extremely common in the JK.

Tinman,

It's definitely not from the door window, but specifically just above the visor on the passenger side of the windshield, more towards the corner of the sill where the softop meets the windshield frame. Believe me, the first thing I checked every time I was on the road and the noise arose was the window...

It's a 2007 2-DR X model.

If you don't like the wind noise put a hard top on.

Where he describes his is from won't matter hard or soft. It's the crappy header seal. Good luck with that one.

Is this noise coming from where the softtop meets the windshield? There are two service bulletins from Jeep. It was on the 2007 JK - mine was taken in and corrected and it made a world of difference. Now the softtop is almost as quite as the hardtop.

The end up replacing the rubber strip and also do something else. You can do a search on it also.

Hope it helps....

Here is the link for the bulletin I referenced. It is off the JK-Forum too.

Sorry for all the posts - just waking up!

This does apply to Soft tops that ARE NOT sunrider too. Mine was covered by this bulletin or another that covers the standard soft top.

I am cynical regarding that TSB. Mine was unsuccessful 4 times. The repair that made the most difference to me was when they installed the new header but this time they sealed the entire length shut across the whole windshield per DC's recommendation. You could see a small bead of RTV like stuff visible. It worked pretty well for the wind noise. Did not fix my leaking issues though. But nothing fixed those. The sealing is probably something you could do yourself. The install is typically sealed under the rubber header seal but not along the leading edge that meets the metal of the vehicle.

I personally would try loosening the 2 screws that fasten the loop the roof hook attaches to. Shorten the loop slightly, reattach the top hook and test drive. You will probably have to adjust both sides to equalize the ''pull'' when clamping the top down. Just a small adjustment should make a difference. Don't clamp too tightly, you don't want to break that $600 top header....
