Window sticker says Trac-Lok but...

I bought my 07 Sahara Unlimited used a few weeks ago...from a used car dealer...I wasn't super concerned if it had Limited Slip because I read about ESP and there was no way to tell without jacking it up right there. So I do the deal and am surprised to find the original window sticker in the final paper work. It says the JK has the Trac-Lock Limited Slip Rear Differential $295 option. :ya:

But after driving it I notice it burns out like an open diff...jack it up and sure enough the rear tires spin in opposite directions. :naw:

Do I have any recourse being the second owner if I take it to the original selling dealer??

Is the warranty still in effect and transferable?
If it did have Trac-Lock Limited Slip Rear Differential, it's probably broken from somebody doing burnouts.

I'm well within the 3/36k...

I'm sure it has the track lok. Mine only has 6700 miles on it and it does the same thing. I have not abused it in the LEAST. They are just PISS POOR LSD's is all.

Shouldn't both wheels spin in the same direction when off the ground??? (As in jacked up in the garage).

My Durango with LSD does that....

FWIW ...I wasn't doing burnouts either...just pulling out on a wet road

Didn't the BLD take over? This winter in the snow, I couldn't get it to spin the wheels in 2wd. Well, it would, but the system stopped it very quickly, and I moved on.

With an LSD, Shouldn't both wheels spin in the same direction when off the ground??? (As in jacked up in the garage).

anyone?

Umm... I don't think so. The only way both wheel will spin in the same direction is if the driveshaft is turning.

From wikipedia:

Geared LSDs are less prone to wear than the clutch type, but both output shafts have to be loaded to keep the proper torque distribution characteristics. Once an output shaft becomes free (e.g. one driven wheel lifts off the ground; or a summer tire comes over ice while another is on dry tarmac when the car goes uphill), no torque is transmitted to the second shaft and the torque-sensitive differential behaves like an open differential.

I'm not getting my question across (or I'm not understanding the answers)...let me try again:

#1 - 99 Durango w/LSD...in the garage, rear wheels off the ground, in neutral, spin one tire by hand, both tires spin in the same direction.

#2 - 07 JK w/LSD (??)...in the garage, rear wheels off the ground, in neutral, spin one tire by hand, other tire spins in the opposite direction.

Does the JK have an LSD? Is this not a proper test? Perhaps the JK's LSD does not behave like the Durango's??

Ahh sorry, you're right, I didn't read/understand you properly. Sorry :)

My guess is that the LSDs are different.

Based on this:
http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/traclok.html

I think that trac-lok is a clutch type diff, not a Torsen type diff.
edit: Also, from the wikipedia page on LSDs:
"Jeep: Trac-Lok (clutch-type mechanical) and Tru-Lok (gear-type mechanical)"

Thus, see this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited...rque_Activated

According to that, the wheels will behave as you say... just like an open diff, because there is no torque on the driveshaft, thus the clutches are open, thus the diff is completely "unlocked".
