Welcome!
Yep, I found this out as well. Back in 2007 I bought mine off the lot becuase it had everything I wanted (except the Hardtop). I got the dealer to throw in the hardtop installation if I bought the hardtop.
It was the first one they did, and it was more than they bargained for. Took them three days.
The harness includes an entirely new HVAC dash control panel and wiper stalk, so the steering column and most of the dash need to come apart. From there the harness also goes to the ECU and back to the hardtop connection for the wiper fluid and wipers. I think there is also a larger washer tank.
Then, the ECU needs to be re-flashed so that it knows it has a rear washer and wiper.

Could the harness be done in a driveway... sure, but it is not something I wanted to do. And then the dealer would have to flash the ECU anyhow.

If you dont want or need use of the rear washer or wiper, then just get the hardtop without the harness. That is all that is effected. Good luck!
