I dealt with the same issue. Mine ended up being axle ujoints that were seizing up. One way to check is to jack up front end and turn wheel all the way to one side and spin the wheels by hand one at a time and if the tire spins freely without any sudden stops the joint should be ok. If it acts like it is catching on something and slowing down abruptly you probably should change the u joints. Hope this helps...
