'09 JK X, 3.8L Auto, 4WD.

Engine runs fine, jeep won't move when put in gear. It's not the plastic cable bushings. The transmission selector is engaging properly and displaying on the dash, but no power is getting to the wheels.
ATF fluid for the transmission is full, but I do have a Mishimoto cooler, and there is some ATF fluid weeping from the rubber cooler hoses. I will replace those, but I don't think it's the cause of the issue (if I'm wrong, tell me).

Codes, in the order they were thrown: P0733 (Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio), P0732 (Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio), C1405 (Transfer Case Range Position Sensor Circuit High)
I'm also getting some evap codes, but those should be unrelated.

I'm thinking a bad t-case position sensor, but if someone else has already done this song and dance, let me know what the deal is.

Are you 100% sure the transfer case is not in neutral? It might be a bad t-case sensor as two of the three fault codes point to that as a possible cause. I also know that if you have the t-case in neutral and try shifting between gears on the transmission, it will throw fault codes.

Crawl underneath and make sure the t-case cable is connected and the mechanical selector arm is all the way one way or the other.

Bushings are intact, the selector knob has resistance and feels like it’s engaging the lever on the t-case properly. 4WD lights up on the dash when I select 4H. I’ve tried it in 2H and 4H, no movement. T-case is not in neutral.

Cleared codes and restarted the jeep. Get the t-case position sensor circuit high code again.

I can feel the sensor on top of the t-case and the wires that go into it but of course it’s a tight space and I can’t see it. How does the wiring plug come out? I don’t want to break that plug. If I could see it removed once I could probably do it blind.

 

At this point it's beyond my ability to provide much useful information. You can look at Chilton's online manual free through most local libraries. Some require a library card. Some states have full access simply by being a resident.
