wrong oil

Default wrong oil

ok so for the past 163 000 km i been useing 5w30 synt. oil
took the jeep in last night for an oil change and noticed that they put in 0w40 synt?
will this hurt my engine, should i take it back and have them change it back to 5w30?

If they didn't put in what you wanted, they should replace it.

It won't hurt anything but why would they put anything besides 5w30 in? Maybe because of the km on the OD.

good to know that it wount hurt anything.
i am not sure why they put 0w40 in, the tech that worked on the jeep wasnt in today, i hope to get an answer tomorrow.

For the enviroment you live in that would probably be a good year round oil. The 0 makes it flow well when it is cold and 40 makes it act like a heavy oil when it is hot. I think they put in a good oil for you.

true true and agree, they are using a good oil for his location in the cold temps

that's what Chrysler recommends in the manual, and if you are still under warranty, it is advisable to stay with the 5w20. it is a good all around oil for warm or cold climates. I can use 5w20 down here in Florida and I could use it up in New York

the tech probably looked at his mileage and figured since he way out of warranty, there no problem to use it, the 5w20 may have been out of stock too, so they used the 0w40

IIRC, 5w-30 is recommended in the manual in every market but the US.
