My advise to all is to get a comparison quote for a zero deductible comprehensive policy from your insurance company. My insurance only went up like $15 a year by going 0 deductible and when hail damaged my truck, it was a no-brainer...fix it!!! Also, see how much premium rental coverage is... You'll thank yourself when you're not stuck in an Aveo for a week while your repairs are being done on something more time consuming!!!

I've got free glass repair/replacement. I got tired of waiting for the kid to fix my rock chips all the time so I just figure I'll wait till it cracks now.

One thing to add - notice the DFI sticker on my windshield? It stands for DiamonFusion... aka. Piece of Crap. The dealer told me it's awesome for rain repellent, helps with glare and and makes your windshield more durable to damage. So I was a schmuck and went for it since it only added $6 to my monthly payment.

Well... the rain part worked well... for the first 2 days. Then it washed out and made no difference. Basically RainX. Glare: whatever. Damage? FAIL. In short, don't get conned into getting DiamonFusion. Coz it SUX

Had mine replaced a month after I got it home. "0" out of pocket. Just had my wife's rear widow on her Ford Edge replaced this weekend "0" out of pocket. The guy showed me the bill for her glass and it was close to $800.

I looked into my GEICO policy right after reading this and upped my deductible to $100. Only cost me $22 more per half year. Worth it for all the future rock hits I'll be taking!

Default Safelite never again.

I used Safelite with the recommendation of the insurance company. The new windshield cracked in the center and ran upward 18 days later. Safelite sent a repairman to the house and he rubbed the crack for a minute or two until he suddenly found a flake of glass that came from the crack. No warranty was honored by Safelite.

Here in S. Carolina it is law that windshields are replaced FREE w/zero deductible from the insurance company. It's a good thing too since the roads here are crap! I have replaced 3 windshields on 2 different vehicles in the past year.

X2
Yeah,it is great having that. The only thing that bugs me about it is now at random gas stations there are windshield repair people there to clean your windshield with dirty gas station water for" customer appreciation day", "oh and by the way we see two chips in your windshield we can bill your insurance and get those for you immediately."

I used SafeLite with their online quote. When the guy arrived he charged me about $50 more than the quote. I ended up writing the local office and corporate HQ and they all gave me a song and dance about new computers with incorrect pricing information--that I should have been charged the lower amount. Because I was in a bind for time, I was not able to take it to my usual place (heck, a usual place to change windshields--what kind of statement is that?!?). So the online quote was about $100 more than them, but SafeLite came to me. I figure from now on I'll just work out the means to drop it off at the local place that was only about $230 (vice $330 or $380).
