yet another blend door actuator
Hi all,
Has anyone replaced a passenger-side vent door actuator in a 2014-ish JK and was able to calibrate it? There is a pile of inconsistent info on the forums that I'd thought I'd try and get a recent/validated procedure on how to do it.
I went through 2 Dorman actuators over 6 months that eventually blew themselves up after them trying to recalibrate over and over again. My JSCAN-compatible OBD scanner said high/low voltage error on the actuators. So before I install from another supplier, has anyone got this calibration to work??
Assuming I've got it installed:
- what supplier's part worked/didn't work?
- are these actuators really self calibrating?
- do I need JSCAN paid-for to initiate the calibration? JSCAN doesn't do the calibration itself, right? It just tells the jeep to calibrate...
If someone could clear the air
and let me know what worked for you, that'd be ever so much appreciated!
Thanks!

replaced the actuator that controls temp some time ago. It was never right. Either totally hot or cold, no in between. Recently replaced the battery, and now it works as it's supposed to
I replaced my blend door actuator (driver’s side of HVAC unit) with a Crown aftermarket unit. It will not properly calibrate - either on its own or with JScan. It did eventually start working properly after several months, but when I disconnected the battery to perform other work it returned to the uncalibrated state.
The only consistent information I have found is that aftermarket actuators do not properly calibrate, and that it is better to just take the hit and buy an OEM Mopar part. Eventually I’ll replace the Crown unit with OEM, but not really looking forward to doing the job again…
