Default Recreation areas AB open to on highway vehicles

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to track down trails that are open to Jeeps and other on highway vehicles? All I get doing a google search is recreation areas that seem only to be open for ATVs and dirt bikes. Kananaskis website limits their trails to vehicles weighing less than a 1000lbs.

best thing to do is join a local club, then get to know where to go legally & responsibly.

not saying you're a yahoo trying to wreck shit, just that it's best to go with sombody who knows where you can & can't go.

Well said, there are plenty of yahoos out there. Check out the Edmonton Jeep Community (EJC). The Alberta Safari park is pretty good I hear, but you must have at least 2 people on a run. Try the TNTGP website they can point you to runs in the Grand Prairie/Grand Cache/Fairview areas.

I would start there. Tread Lightly and have a good time.

Maclean area southwest of Calgary is wide open to wheeling and Waiporous still has a couple trails open. ASRD should have maps for Waiporous area that will show the trails that are still open to vehicles. I have a map but it's from '07. As far as I know they should still be open.

You'll have to travel a little ways outta the City limits to find anything decent, however there are trails all over that will let you discover the awesome country we have here in Alberta...a nice little tip? Go to the local store that sells maps, look for the Back Country Roads and trails coil bound alberta map book, it's got a ton of stuff in there man!!! Mostly you'll have to plan day trips and what not, but it's really really worth it...I now don't mind driving to Hinton and turning south for some great outdoor scenery, might take me 4-5 hours, but it's worth it down there man!!

Agreed Pack out what you pack in, stick to pre-existing trails don't start making your own, and just use common sense and respect.
