Default Choosing a cargo rack - Gobi or Wild Boar

Does anyone have any experience with either the Gobi or Wild Boar roof racks? They both seem to be comparable in build quality and weight capacity. They are also "relatively" in the same price range. Just wondering who has what and what their experiences have been. Oh yeah, this would be for a 4-door.

honestly, if you've ever seen the two up close, there really is no comparison between the two. the gobi is built amazingly well and is super strong. i have personally installed the other and the quality is lousy, flimsy, has a poor fit and require drilling of the body in order to make it work. plus, the cross members on top of the rack are spread out so far apart that they are practically useless. talk to MBATF from alphaexpedition as he can hook you up with a gobi rack. also, mmccurdy has one and he can tell you about his experiences with his as well.

I ran across the Gobi on Alpha's web site. I like the design of it. I just want to make sure the added cost is worth it in construction quality and rigidity.

Default gobi

I have a gobi. its solid. very well built. only issue I had was there was something inside the tubes rolling around every time I turned. drove me nuts with the top off. Took it in and they put expandable foam in there which got rid of 90% of it. I would buy it again. Note however that a stock soft top is a PITA to put up or down with a rack on.. I sold mine and went with a trektop.

I do see though that they have quick disconnects now to handle the soft top. I only have a hard top currently so that wouldn't be an issue for a while.

I have personally owned many many racks in the pass. And by far Gobi rack is one of most well build rack out there on the market. Just ask my 30+ happy customers who have purchased it recently

Please feel free to contact me at dtung@alphaexpedition.com with any questions or concerns.

I put my Gobi rack, which I bought direct from Gobi, on three weeks ago, and I can't say enough about how great it is. Solid, well designed, etc. The only thing I don't like is what it did to my mileage, but I think any rack s going to do that. Go Gobi!

I have one of the Wild Boar racks... works great for my occasional usage. No artic expeditions planned in the future so it meets my needs for hauling hunting gear and the yearly Christmas tree. Works well (and looks good) with the Wildboar fastback top that I have as the rack has shocks to raise it up to the side easily to allow removal of the top panels. Mounting seems sturdy... glad I didn't have to install it though as the rear-frame based mount would have been a pain.

Gas mileage definitely takes a hit though... not too much of an increase in wind noise though which was a plus.
