so i took my jk to the dealer today because it was shaking pretty bad after going over decent bumps and between 50-55mph. it almost felt as if my wheels were off balance.... dealer tells me i need new tires and the "new" steering damper. so i ordered some 33" hankook dynapro mt's. has anyone heard anything about these tires? tire dealer told me they sell a lot of them and people love them. also has anyone had any problems with this steering damper problem?

could be tires out of balance or one of the many steering components have become loose or worn. check everything with this.

It's called Death Wobble and it's a pretty common problem. I've been struggling with it too. I'm hoping it is just my tires, but there are lots of other causes to rule out as well.

Deadguy is right, it is often caused by looseness in the front end. Apparently a loose track bar is the cause if death wobble 9 out of 10 times. This is the first time I've heard of a steering damper being the problem, but I'm sure it's possible.

I just bought 5 of those tires along with new rims. I did a lot of research before buying and spent an hour on the phone with a DTD rep who highly recommended them. I honestly had a tough time finding a bad review about them, including looking through Ford, Toyota and Dodge forums to see what they said also.

Oh havent got the tires or rims yet..they will be here Monday., and i also went with 33"s

There great except for the fact I have to air down to 9 psi but they stay on the factory steel wheels just fine. I've hot around 40 k on mine.

steering damper = steering stabilizer?

I'm assuming so...dealer called it a steering damper.


Also does anyone know if I'll have problems with rubbing with the 33x11.25? Tire guy said "we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but you should be fine."

Do you have much tread left? Also is there anything about them you don't like?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure any rubbing at that size would be purely dependant on the rim size and offset.
