Jeep Scrambler Mule Spied Getting Trail Rated
Two Jeep Scrambler pickups mules hit the Rubicon Trail for testing, and it’s clear that engineers aren’t babying them.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last year or so, you already know that the existence of a Jeep Wrangler pickup is the worst kept secret in the automotive world. We’ve already seen plenty of spy shots of the truck testing on public roads. But the exciting product rumored to receive the Scrambler nameplate must also be every bit as tough off-road as on, of course, if it wants to be taken seriously. And it appears that the new Jeep Wrangler pickup is indeed earning its trail rating the hard way.
At least it sure looks that way in the spy photos posted over at the Jeep Scrambler Forum recently. Not one but two Scramblers were out tackling the Rubicon Trail in some heavy camo, but we can still spot some obvious signs of abuse. Torn up fabric flanks both bodies, for starters. And in one of the shots, you can clearly see a damaged rear bumper, which somewhat vindicates the concerns many have aired regarding the truck’s departure angle. But hey, that’s what testing is for, right?
The big story here, however, is the bed affixed to the Jeep Wrangler pickup. And by the looks of things, it’s larger than your average mid-size truck. That’s good news for people who plan to use their truck like, well, a truck. The cab itself also appears to be about the same size as the Wrangler Unlimited, so you’re not sacrificing passenger space for cargo capacity, either.
As you already know, the mid-size truck market is hotter than ever. And Jeep appears poised to capture some of that sales magic with the Jeep Scrambler. Other manufacturers offer off-road packages at an additional cost. Jeeps, of course, come trail rated right out of the box. Now it’s just a simple matter of waiting to see the finished product. Which should happen sometime this year, ahead of a 2019 sale date.
