Wrangler Rubicon 2.0L Turbo Frees Itself Without Winch
Four-banger Wrangler doesn’t let California’s treacherous Rubicon Trail get the best of it. V6 owners, take some notes.
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon takes its name from the arduous Rubicon trail that winds its way through the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. It’s 22 miles of unforgiving terrain that can trip up even the most experienced off-roaders. This made it the perfect place for Jeep to showcase the capabilities of the Wrangler Rubicon JL.
The father and son team Roman and Tommy Mica over at TFLCar arrived on site via helicopter and then chose their Wrangler from the assembled lineup. No doors? Check. New 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder? Check. Bright red paint that will only stay that way for about thirty seconds once you start driving through the dirt? Check.

Rocky Jeep Endurance Run
Jeep spread out this trip over two days with day one consisting of 10 hours behind the wheel. That’s a lot of driving on a paved road. On the Rubicon trail, those 10 hours are like running an endurance race. You could walk that same section of the Rubicon trail in around three hours, but the going it a bit slower and more challenging in a vehicle.
The line of Jeeps winds it’s way across rocks, around boulders, and through narrow squeezes that have only the barest amount of wiggle room. Plenty of spotters along the way ensure everyone is safe, but that doesn’t mean no one gets stuck.

There’s a push or two to get the guys back on track and a tow strap is employed at one point when one vehicle gets high-centered. No shame getting stuck on this trail. It is not for the faint-hearted. In the end, the Wrangler was up to the task and so were Roman and Tommy, but all were a little worse for wear once they arrived at camp.
