The 2024 Wrangler and 2024 Wrangler 4xe get some “California Love” as Jeep introduces the Famous for Freedom tagline.

For the folks at Jeep, the Wrangler is the ultimate expression of what makes their vehicles truly unique. Hard top, open top, no doors, off road, make-it-anything, do-it-all kinds of capabilities. It is instantly recognizable in all aspects. Much like the location of Jeep’s first iteration of their new Famous for Freedom ad campaign.

California, much like Jeep is known for its uniqueness. There’s the laid back atmosphere of surfing on the beach, and the off-the-grid ruggedness of the mountains. Then there’s the city life with sports and expression, too. In any and all situations, a Jeep Wrangler can be the perfect ride.

More now than ever, it also has a positive impact, with less of an impact. The Wrangler 4xe, according to PR Newswire is America’s best selling plug-in hybrid, ousting even the Prius Prime. With 21 miles worth of emissions free driving, the 4xe allows you to “leave no trace” when exploring the rugged terrain. And when the going gets tough, 470 combined lb/ft of torque is there to muscle you out. And those advantages off-road work in the city, too. No wonder it’s so popular.

Beyond that is Jeep’s first advertisement for the Wrangler, featuring the song, “California Love.” You may be thinking it is just a song. Except, it isn’t. Tupac‘s “California Love” has never been used in an automotive commercial before. In fact, there’s always been bit of stipulation as to who owns the rights to the artist’s music after his passing. It’s a careful balance of respecting the work of an artist, connecting with a brand, while also not trying to seem like a sellout. No one could ever be sure where Tupac would stand on this topic.

Still, Stellantis global chief marketing officer Oliver Francois sees this track as essential to Jeep’s marketing. Via PR Newswire, he states, “we want to tap into the nostalgia from that decade while recognizing the unique hold that the Wrangler has across the entire automotive and cultural landscapes. ‘California Love’ captures the spirit of the Jeep Wrangler and our owners around the world in a way no other can.”
