WWE Cash Bought John Cena’s First Jeep, a 1989 Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is a dream ride for most people, including John Cena. How is his first big purchase holding up 28 years later?

The Jeep Wrangler is an all-American symbol for freedom. Jeep is an icon of our victory in World War Two. It offers the freedom to go anywhere and do anything, just like the American dream. The Wrangler is the continuation of that original Jeep, and that dream.

For this exact reason the Wrangler is a Jeep people dream of owning. The Wrangler is also an affordable car, both new or used. So, it is no surprise that when former WWE wrestler John Cena got his first big check, he went out and bought his 1989 Wrangler.

On YouTube channel The Bella Twins, John Cena has a segment called Auto Geek. In this episode he pulls his old Wrangler out for a little tour. His little YJ generation Jeep has seen better days, but we are just happy he still has it and drives it. The 1989 Wrangler offered two engine choices, the 2.5 inline four and the 4.2 straight six. Cena’s has the 2.5 four cylinder and it seems a bit tired. On the test drive he points out that is takes over 23 seconds to hit 60 mph. He also shows us that once the car is in fifth gear it actually starts to lose speed. Of course out on a trail, where these little YJs live, speed doesn’t matter.

His 1989 Wrangler is in a spec a lot of us are familiar with, half doors and no top. This offers maximum enjoyment when using the Jeep as an experience vehicle. Aside from a motorcycle, there are few vehicles that offer as much open air driving as a Wrangler. We would love to see John improve the Jeep and take it on an offroad adventure, but we are also happy just to see it on the road. He sums it up perfectly when he says “Of all the cars we’ve showcased, dollar for dollar this one has given me far and away the most joy. And this is one I’ll never get rid of.”

Thanks for keeping another Wrangler on the road, John Cena. Let us know what you think in the comments.
